What the heck are Flower Essences?

What are flower essences?

Flower essences are a natural, gentle but effective form of traditional herbal medicine that was pioneered by Dr Edward Bach in the 1920s and '30s. Rather than acting on the physical body, flower essences work at an emotional level to help bring about subtle but powerful shifts in attitudes and thought patterns. Hello teenagers! Flower essences are a safe, natural way to help support kids, teens and adults through change, times of stress and can help balance emotions.

How are flower essences made?

The process starts with foraged and wildcrafted native Australian and international plants, from which a super-concentrated infusion or 'mother stock' is created. It is then diluted and bottled so it's ready to use.

What makes Tribe of the Tree's flower essences different?

Flower essences are aspirational and forward looking, with an emphasis on where you want to go, not where you’ve been. They invite you to focus on the issues you’re facing in a new way, and to embrace life joyfully and energetically and confident in your ability to handle whatever comes your way. Customers often describe Tribe of the Tree essences using words like feeling 'focused', 'calm', 'fresh' and 'lively'.

How do I take them?

Take 7 drops under the tongue, morning, and night. Try holding the flower essence in your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing it. If you find the taste too strong, drops can be added to water and sipped throughout the day. This is a great alternative for kids and pets.

Can I take more than one essence at a time?

Yes. Most people find that taking one, two or occasionally three essences at a time works well for them. If you're feeling drawn to more than that, take a moment to tune into which of them feels most important for you right now, and start there.

I'm not sure which essence to choose. Can you help me decide?

We’d be delighted! If you can’t decide which essence to take after reading about them in the products section of our website, please contact us with a brief summary of what’s going on for you, and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.

How long have I been working with flower essences?

Flower essences were introduced to me by my beautiful late Mum when I was 16. My Mum was an amazing Naturopath and Psychologist, and natural therapies were her core business. After seeing amazing results with my anxiety during my late teens, I needed to know more. Mum taught me all there is to know about these beautiful remedies. When I had my own kids, I introduced flower remedies to them to help with sleep and poor regulation and have again seen wonderful results. After 25 years of using these beautiful remedies, I am now studying natural therapies alongside earning my nutrition accreditation.

Do the essences contain alcohol?

Brandy has traditionally been used to preserve flower essences and is used in the Tribe of the Tree range. Each standard seven-drop dose contains around 1/3 of a drop of alcohol. That’s why we describe it as a trace amount. If you’re sensitive to alcohol or prefer not to take it orally, here are three alternative ways to work with the essences:

  1. Where appropriate, consider using one of our Flower Essence Mists instead of the drops
  2. Apply the drops to the skin on your tummy, the inside of your wrists or the back of your neck. This method is particularly popular with kids and pets
  3. Put the flower essence drops into a cup and then pour in a couple of inches of boiling water straight from the kettle, and let it cool before drinking it. Most of the alcohol will evaporate

Are the essences safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women, for children, or for pets?

Yes. Please feel free to contact us with some details of your situation beforehand if you’re not sure and would like some guidance.  The alternative dosage methods discussed above may also be relevant in these circumstances.

Can I take the essences with other forms of medicine or therapies?

Yes, you can take Tribe of the Tree essences with other therapies.

How long do they take to work?

Everyone’s experience is different, with some people noticing shifts during their first dose of the essence, and others reporting a more gradual process – often two to three weeks.

How do I know if it’s working?

If you’re looking at things from a new angle, handling situations differently, or experiencing a shift in your attitude or the way people respond to you, then it seems likely that you’re on the right track. Please contact us if you’d like to discuss your experiences in more detail.
